DRIVERS TRAINING EDUCATION
Private Drivers Training School – Certified by the PA Dept of Education

Goodwill Industries of NCPA, Inc. has been operating a Private Drivers Training & Education Program since 2000.  Our training program is certified by the PA Department of Education and offers both theoretical and practical instruction for any individual seeking a PA Drivers License.

As a non-profit organization dedicated to employment training and placement, Goodwill offers a drivers training program to help people overcome one of the biggest employment barriers:  transportation to work.  While we do work with several local public transportation agencies to mobilize employees to their jobs, often times people seek their own transportation.  We strive to educate and assist people in becoming a safe and educated licensed highway motorist.

PERMIT INSTRUCTION
Our Private Drivers Education Program offers thirty (30) hours of theoretical instruction that is required by PA Law to obtain a PA Drivers Permit.  Each participant will work one-on-one with a Certified Drivers Instructor to ensure all details necessary to pass the Permit Test are obtained. 

Upon successfully completing and obtaining a permit, you can now move into our driver’s seat. 

BEHIND THE WHEEL TRAINING
Once you have obtained a PA Drivers Learners Permit, you are now eligible for behind the wheel driving instruction.  Our instructor will begin with an overview of the vehicle’s interior devices.  Your driving journey will begin in parking lots and back roads with light traffic.  As you gain experience and confidence, you will then navigate side roads, highways, parallel parking and finally interstate driving. 

After completion of behind the wheel instruction, our instructor will arrange a date and time for your driving exam with the PA Department of Transportation in your local area.  Our vehicle may be used for this exam and our instructor can accompany you to and from the testing site. 

Upon passing your test, you will have your photo ID taken and receive your PA Drivers License.

PAYMENT

Our standard fee for drivers’ education training is $40.00 per hour.  Each participant will receive one-on-one training with a PA Certified Drivers Instructor in a private setting.

Participants may chose either or both the theoretical (permit) instruction and the practical (behind the wheel) training.  A Goodwill vehicle may be used to take the PA drivers license exam.
            Theoretical (Permit) Instruction lasts thirty (30) hours.
            Practical (Behind the Wheel) Training lasts six (6) hours.

Funding may be available from agencies such as OVR, DPW, Community Action, etc.

 WHAT IF I DON’T PASS?

If you don’t give up…we won’t either. 

As an extended courtesy, if you do not pass your drivers exam, a Goodwill Instructor will work with you on the problem area and again assist you to the testing facility for re-exam…free of charge.
