Robbie McKolanis – Goodwill Industries of North Central PA, Inc.
In 2007, Robbie McKolanis joined Goodwill Industries of North Central Pennsylvania as a participant of the Goodwill Works School to Work transition program. Robbie visited Goodwill every other week while learning valuable job skills in the classroom until the time of his graduation in June of 2007. Realizing that Robbie had tremendous talent, Goodwill hired him to work as part of the production team at the Retail Processing Center in Falls Creek. While a hard worker, Robbie was very hesitant to communicate due to an existing speech impediment but worked hard each and every day. It was apparent to staff that Robbie had much more to offer and when the Dell Reconnect program started it was a huge opportunity for Robbie to utilize his talents to benefit the organization in a completely different manner.
Robbie has taken ownership of the Dell Reconnect program and is responsible for all aspects of sorting, weighing and tracking materials from over 30 locations for Goodwill. Robbie’s hard work ethic and attention to detail made him a logical choice for the position and has allowed him to further develop his skills while providing a vital function for the organization. More importantly, the opportunity has allowed Robbie’s confidence to blossom and he is now known as the organizational “chatter box” for his love of interaction with his co-workers and supervisors. In 2012, Robbie has become a mentor for other youth participating in the school to work program and regularly provides information to guests visiting the Goodwill facility about the Dell Reconnect program. Although Dell Reconnect was initially considered to be an eco-friendly alternative to computer recycling, we at Goodwill Industries of North Central Pennsylvania have found it to be a life changing program for Robbie!
