Goodwill places someone in a good job |
Supported Employment Services Goodwill has devised a one-on-one, on-the-job training model in which participants are paired with an Employment Specialist to be trained in job tasks and personal/social skills necessary to be successfully integrated in and maintain competitive employment in the community. The Supported Employment Services assist participants in becoming self-sufficient, tax-paying citizens who earn a pay check from a competitive work employer. Each person in the program will work with a Goodwill Employment Specialist to determine the best plan of action to achieve goals resulting in permanent employment. Once a job is obtained, the Employment Specialist will accompany the participant to the job site and assist them in developing the skills and abilities necessary to succeed on the job. As the participant becomes familiar and comfortable with the employers’ job expectations, the Employment Specialist will gradually fade away allowing the participant to perform all job duties by him/herself. Once the participant becomes fully engaged in their new job, Goodwill will continue to monitor job performance and employer/employee satisfaction to ensure a good match. The ultimate goal of the Supported Employment Service is to assist people in obtaining competitive employment by introducing them to a job position and assisting in the training of the skills necessary until that person is comfortable/capable of performing on their own. Graduates are fully aware of all the jobs’ expectations, rules and procedures leaving no surprises at the job site after they are hired. Business owners benefit greatly from this program. Business owners actually receive two employees for the price of one during the training days as the Employment Specialist accompanies their new employee to the job. Owners do not have to spend valuable resources training the new employee; Goodwill follows the employers training manual to train them. Graduates of this program have very high retention rates at their new job, which decreases employers’ expense of continually training for one position. |
